I would like to start them but....
I have a few reasons not to:
-School, specifically college. Should be dedicating more time to that.
-Living in a dorm. Not in my own room, less privacy.
and a few reasons to do commissions:
-Helps with money
-I feel confident enough in my skills to start taking them
-This will not only help me improve on art, but also improve on taking more in the future
but also I have some concerns in general:
-Am I screwing myself out of money if I make them cheap in the beginning?
-Will I upset people for starting cheap and then raising prices once I'm better?
-How do I deal with customers I can't meet the demands of?
-What's the best way to professionally offer commissions, receive payment, and provide the artwork?
I feel like I will eventually do them at some point, but I'm not sure if I should start small now, or maybe wait until I'm living in an apartment with my own room, and I'm much more used to managing my time on this kind of schedule. I think that would be the best course of action, but also I see people starting them so early that I'm not sure if I should also do something now? Either way, most of my concerns will still be relevant whenever I do start, except once my reasons not to have less of an impact.

November 2020 Update + Might Leave(?)
Hey, just giving a small update. Comms are going well, I've been doing 'em for the last 5 months or so, excluding last month, where I instead did a daily sketch challenge - I'll post those eventually. Mostly just writing this to say I'm honestly pretty disgusted by this site's policy/method dealing with commissions, seeing a subscription being necessary to cash in points ON TOP of them taking a percentage cut is a huge scam and has soured me to this site more than before. Just a word of advice to any artist: HANDLE COMMISSIONS YOURSELF; NOBODY SHOULD BE TAKING A CUT EXCEPT SERVICES OF MONEY TRANSFER!! Get yourself some pricing sheets, a well written ToS, and charge people via invoice. Do not use anything like Deviantart as a middleman. I used to be a bit of a policy defender for DA considering most of the artist rights scandals previously are simply issues related to the site's ability to host the user's content that they maintain rights over, but this attempt to steal 20%+ off the
August 2020 Update
Hey everyone! It's been over a year since I've updated my page or submitted anything, until yesterday. Since it's been a while, I guess I'll say, I go by Paige now, for those who don't know! I don't think I'll ever be as active as I was before, but just so y'all know, I've been taking commissions lately (primarily over on Twitter). I don't personally find posting commission openings on Deviantart all too useful (the culture surrounding very cheap, very undersold artwork and the use of abstracted "points" makes it essentially impossible to do it practically) but I do intend to post artwork again. I may trim down my following list a bit to see more of my favorite artists again that I don't see on Twitter much. I also am not sure if I'll be using Core again, unless this site becomes more active/useful for comm posting somehow. I've narrowed my active online presence almost entirely to Twitter, so I only intend to use this site as a gallery for folks who only check this site. For anyone

this is 4 months late x_x
I'm not including the rules or tagging anyone else/making my own questions, this ends here, sorry!!! I don't dedicate a lot of time to dA anymore so that's more effort than I'm willing to put in! (but I do love answering questions!)
(but I do miss talkin' to some of y'all)
1) What's your most used phrase right now?
somehow "good lord" and "my word" have become more common reaction phrases and I don't know why. probably to swear less but also because they just sound funny because I sorta associate it with older people.
2)Find any new music that you love recently?
like NEW? Particle War is nic
September 2018 Update
I'm not super active on this site, I've let my core membership slip a few time, not sure if I'll keep up with it unless dA does the whole 1/2 off holiday gift thing with a friend at the end of the year. I'll still upload but not with too much care (thinking of titles, tagging, reading updates, etc., I haven't done that in a while honestly) it's just not super worth it, it's not the best portfolio site and tumblr/twitter are just far more convenient for posting and sharing. I've met some cool people but I usually end keeping in contact via other sites or discord. Like I said, I'll still post. That, and I'll still check notes/messages as well

Hmm, all excellent reasons and concerns.
I say, when you get the time, just go for it.
Start with prices ranging from 5-20, and just work from there.
Provide a list of your "do's and dont's" (I WON'T draw: Muscles, Pie, Chickens, ect.)
Hmm...go with a price you think your art is worth, that's what I did, I don't think your gut can steer you wrong.
